Proshow preview #2 : Mohit Chauhan

Back in the day, we all heard of and fell in love with the song Dooba Dooba by Silk route. The enchanting vocals and riffs followed by the first Indian underwater music video has us all hooked. They were an Indian band who had been classified under the broad category of ‘Indipop’ but who wished to distance themselves as far as possible from the term. The band ‘Silk Route’, came into being in the summer of 1997 and caught the attention of the country’s music scene by bagging a host of Channel V awards for their first album Boondein, with the track "Dooba Dooba" receiving the ‘Best Song’ award. The band incidentally also got awards for its underwater video, for ‘Best Debut’, ‘Best Music Video’ and ‘Best Indian Group’. It was, in fact, this runaway success that happened to them while they were barely born into the musical world that spurred them on to aspire for the heights that they have reached. The lead singer of the band, Mohit Chauhan is now all set to vow audiences at Chaos 2009. Mohit hails from Himachal Pradesh and brings with him the influence of the music from the hills, which adds that folk colour to his voice that has made it so distinctive. His film music career got a flying start when he was roped in to sing a song in the film "Rang De Basanti" by none other than A R Rahman. His song "Khoon Chala" was widely appreciated. After Khoon Chala his next hit song was "Tum Se Hi" composed by Pritam, from the film Jab We Met. His latest work is the song "Masakali" from the film Delhi-6 composed by A R Rahman. The song is currently topping the charts. Here's the video from youtube...
